About the CEO role
The CEO is accountable for the entire company: its direction, its results, and its people. They set the vision and strategy, build and lead the executive team, allocate capital and resources, and represent the company to investors, partners, regulators, and the public. Every other role in the business optimizes a part; the CEO answers for the whole, and ultimately to the board.
What the role demands depends heavily on company stage. A startup CEO sells the vision, raises capital, and often does hands-on work across functions. A scale-up CEO builds the executive team and the systems that let the company grow beyond founder reach. A CEO of an established company steers strategy, capital allocation, and culture through market cycles, succession, and transformation. Family businesses and investor-owned companies each add their own governance dynamics.
When writing this posting, be explicit about the mandate: growth, turnaround, professionalization, exit preparation, or succession. Describe the governance structure, who the CEO reports to, and the state of the executive team. Serious candidates will assess the board and the mandate as carefully as you assess them, so clarity here attracts stronger applicants and filters out mismatches early.

Job brief
We are hiring a Chief Executive to lead this company through its next chapter. You will own the strategy, build and lead the executive team, carry company-wide financial performance, decide where capital goes, and represent us to the board, investors, customers, and partners.
This is the right seat for you if you have run an organization at comparable scale, keep your judgment when the information is incomplete, and can point to a leadership bench you built rather than inherited. The job will be measured on enterprise value, the strength of that bench, and the confidence of the board.
Responsibilities
- Define the company vision and strategy, and update them as markets and evidence change
- Own company-wide financial performance, including growth, profitability, and cash position
- Build, lead, and continuously upgrade the executive team
- Allocate capital and resources across functions, products, and markets
- Report to the board, prepare it for key decisions, and execute its governance requirements
- Represent the company to investors, banks, key customers, partners, and regulators
- Make final decisions on major matters: strategy shifts, large investments, M&A, and senior hires
- Shape and protect the company culture, values, and ethical standards from the top
- Ensure the company meets its legal, regulatory, and fiduciary obligations
- Identify existential risks and opportunities early, and prepare the organization for both
- Plan leadership succession, including development of potential successors
Requirements and skills
- Has run a company or a full profit and loss at comparable scale as chief executive, managing director, or general manager
- Set a strategy and then delivered it through an executive team rather than personally
- Fluent in financial statements, capital allocation, and what investors expect to hear
- Has worked with a board of directors, including the uncomfortable conversations
- Has hired senior leaders, developed them, and parted ways with the ones who were wrong
- Holds judgment and composure when the decision is large and the information is incomplete
- Convincing in an all-hands, a boardroom, and an interview with the press
- Personal integrity that survives a due diligence process
- A business degree or an MBA helps, although an exceptional track record counts for more
Nice to have
- Experience matching your mandate, such as fundraising, turnaround, M&A, or international expansion
- Deep knowledge of your industry and its regulatory environment
- Experience leading through a comparable company stage or ownership change
- Public company, private equity, or family business governance experience, as relevant
