About the Merchandiser role

A Merchandiser makes sure the right products are in the right place, at the right price, in a presentation that sells. They set up displays and planograms, keep shelves stocked and faced, rotate stock, place price tags and promotional signage, and monitor how products perform. Some merchandisers work inside one store; field merchandisers cover a territory of stores on behalf of a brand or distributor.

The role connects sales data to the shop floor. Strong merchandisers read sell-through reports, spot slow movers and out-of-stocks, and adjust displays or reorder points to fix them. Field merchandisers also build relationships with store managers, negotiate for better shelf space and secondary placements, audit competitor pricing and displays, and report back with photos and notes that guide the brand's retail strategy.

In your posting, make the working model explicit: in-store or field-based, the territory and expected travel, and whether a car and valid driver's license are required. Name the product category, since merchandising cosmetics differs greatly from merchandising beverages, and note physical demands such as lifting cases and building displays. Also state whether the role only executes planograms or helps design them.

Job brief

We are looking for a Merchandiser to keep our products fully stocked, well presented, and positioned to sell. You will execute planograms, build displays, manage stock levels and rotation, place pricing and promotional materials, and report on product performance and competitor activity. To succeed in this role, you should combine an eye for retail presentation with the discipline to execute standards consistently and the initiative to flag and fix what is not selling.

Responsibilities

  • Stock, face, and organize shelves so products are always available and presentable
  • Execute planograms and display standards accurately, and document completion with photos
  • Build and maintain promotional displays, end caps, and secondary placements
  • Ensure correct pricing, labels, and promotional signage across the assigned section or stores
  • Rotate stock, check dates, and remove damaged or expired product from the floor
  • Monitor inventory levels, report out-of-stocks, and support ordering and replenishment
  • Track product sell-through and recommend layout or assortment adjustments
  • Audit and report competitor pricing, promotions, and shelf presence
  • Build productive relationships with store managers and staff to protect and grow shelf space
  • Complete visit reports and merchandising records accurately and on time

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as a Merchandiser, retail associate, or in a similar retail execution role
  • Understanding of planograms and the ability to execute them precisely from documentation
  • Basic comfort with sales and inventory numbers, and with reporting apps or spreadsheets
  • Strong attention to detail in pricing, signage, and display standards
  • Self-directed work habits, since much of the job is completed without direct supervision
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 40 pounds regularly
  • Reliable availability, including early mornings or weekends when resets are scheduled
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to have

  • Field merchandising experience covering multiple stores, with a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Experience in our product category, such as grocery, beverage, apparel, or consumer electronics
  • Familiarity with retail execution or planogram software
  • Visual merchandising training or experience designing displays, not just executing them
