Requirements and skills
- Has tutored, taught, or mentored students in the subjects this role covers
- Knows the material well enough to teach it flexibly at the relevant level
- Explains a concept several ways and checks whether it actually landed
- Patient and encouraging with students who arrive discouraged
- Reliable about scheduling and clear with students and parents
- Comfortable with online tutoring tools and shared documents for remote sessions
- A degree completed or in progress, or equivalent expertise in the subject
- Able to pass the background check required for work with minors
Nice to have
- Teaching certification or formal classroom experience
- Experience with standardized test preparation such as the SAT or ACT
- Training or experience supporting students with learning differences
