About the Web Designer role
A Web Designer designs the look, layout, and usability of websites: marketing sites, landing pages, e-commerce stores, and campaign microsites. They translate brand identity and business goals into responsive page designs, prepare assets and specifications for developers, and often build pages themselves in a CMS or no-code platform.
The title covers a spectrum. Some Web Designers are purely visual, delivering polished mockups in Figma for developers to build. Others are hybrid designer-builders who ship finished pages in tools like Webflow or WordPress. There is also overlap with UI/UX design, though Web Designers usually focus on marketing and content sites rather than complex product interfaces.
In your posting, specify what the designer will actually ship: mockups, production-ready pages, or both, and name the tools. Also mention who they will work with, since a Web Designer embedded in a marketing team optimizing landing pages has a very different week from one in an agency rotating across client brands.
