About the Barista role

A Barista prepares and serves coffee and other beverages while creating the welcoming atmosphere customers come back for. The role combines craft and service: dialing in espresso, steaming milk properly, keeping the bar clean and stocked, and remembering the regulars' orders.

Great baristas work fast without sacrificing quality, stay friendly during the morning rush, and take pride in consistency. Depending on your venue, the role may also include taking payments, preparing simple food items, and helping open or close the shop.

In your posting, mention your equipment, whether you offer training, and what makes your shop a good place to work. Experienced baristas choose employers who care about coffee quality and staff development, so those details attract stronger applicants.

Job brief

The morning rush at our counter is fast, loud, and full of regulars who expect their usual made exactly right. We need a Barista who is comfortable in that rhythm: someone who can pull consistent shots, steam milk properly, keep a line moving, and still greet the tenth customer with the same warmth as the first.

You do not need years behind an espresso machine; we train the craft. What we cannot teach is genuine friendliness, composure when tickets stack up, and pride in a clean, well-run bar. Bring those, and you will fit right in.

Responsibilities

  • Craft espresso drinks, filter coffee, tea, and cold beverages to recipe and quality standards
  • Steam and texture milk properly for lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk-based drinks
  • Welcome customers at the counter and guide them through the menu when they are undecided
  • Ring up orders and handle cash and card payments without errors
  • Plate and serve pastries, sandwiches, and other prepared food items
  • Maintain a clean, organized bar, machines, and seating area from open to close
  • Monitor stock of beans, milk, syrups, and supplies, restocking and flagging shortages before they bite
  • Keep an eye on equipment condition and report anything that needs maintenance
  • Pass along what customers are saying and pitch ideas for drinks or menu tweaks worth trying
  • Help with opening and closing routines, including setup and end-of-day cleaning
  • Follow health, safety, and hygiene guidelines at all times

Requirements and skills

  • Time spent behind a coffee bar, or in another role serving customers face to face
  • Comfort operating espresso machines and grinders, or real eagerness to be trained on them
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and payments
  • Speed and composure when the queue is out the door, without letting quality slip
  • A warm, communicative manner that makes people feel noticed
  • Reliability with early mornings, weekends, and rotating shifts
  • High school diploma is a plus but not required

Nice to have

  • Latte art skills and knowledge of specialty coffee brewing methods
  • Barista training or certification
  • Experience with POS systems
  • Knowledge of coffee origins, roasting, and tasting notes
