About the Forklift Operator role

A Forklift Operator moves materials safely and efficiently around a warehouse, distribution center, or production facility. They load and unload trucks, transport pallets to storage locations, pick and stage orders, and stack goods at height without damaging product or racking. Depending on the site and its layout, they may operate sit-down counterbalance trucks, stand-up reach trucks, order pickers, or electric pallet jacks.

Safety is the core of the job. Forklifts are involved in serious workplace injuries every year, so a strong operator performs daily equipment inspections, respects load capacities and pedestrian zones, and never takes shortcuts to hit a rate. Good operators also keep inventory accurate by scanning correctly, placing pallets in the right locations, and reporting damaged goods or racking immediately.

In your posting, list the specific equipment types the operator will use, the shift pattern, the working environment such as ambient, cold storage, or outdoor yard, and the certification you require. OSHA requires employer-specific forklift certification, so state whether you certify on site or expect a current card. Include the pay rate and any shift differentials, since operators compare these first.
