About the Procurement Manager role

A Procurement Manager decides how the company spends money with suppliers: which vendors to use, at what price, on what terms, and with what safeguards. They run sourcing processes, negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, and enforce purchasing policies. In most businesses, external spend is one of the largest cost lines, so a capable Procurement Manager pays for the role many times over.

The job looks different by category and industry. Direct procurement buys the materials and components that go into products, where supply continuity and quality are as important as price. Indirect procurement covers everything else, from software and marketing services to facilities and travel, where the challenge is often visibility and stakeholder compliance rather than negotiation alone.

In your posting, state the annual spend under management, the main categories, the team size if any, and the systems in use. Also clarify the mandate: is this a cost-savings role, a risk and compliance role, or a builder role setting up procurement processes for the first time? Candidates with each profile look quite different.
