About the Caregiver role

A Caregiver helps people who cannot fully manage daily life on their own, whether because of age, illness, disability, or recovery from surgery. The work centers on personal care and companionship: helping clients bathe, dress, and eat, reminding them to take medications, preparing meals, keeping the home tidy, and providing steady human contact. For many clients, the caregiver is the person they see most often.

Caregiver roles differ widely by setting. Home care roles involve working alone in a client's home, often building a long-term one-on-one relationship. Roles in assisted living or residential facilities involve supporting multiple residents alongside a care team, with more structure and supervision. Live-in and overnight positions add their own demands. Your posting should state the setting, the typical client profile, the schedule, and whether driving is part of the job.

Because caregivers work with vulnerable people, screening matters as much as skills. Say up front which background checks and references you require. Training and certification requirements for care work vary by jurisdiction, so list what applies where you operate, and mention whether you provide paid training. Postings that describe the clients honestly, including mobility or memory-care needs, attract caregivers who will actually stay.
