About the Registered Nurse role

A Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans with physicians, and acts as the main point of contact between patients and the wider care team. RNs assess patient conditions, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and educate patients and families on managing illness and recovery. Few roles carry as much day-to-day responsibility for patient safety and outcomes.

The scope of an RN role changes significantly with the setting. In a hospital, nurses usually work within a unit such as medical-surgical, emergency, intensive care, or pediatrics, and rotate through day and night shifts. In outpatient clinics, home health, or long-term care, the pace and patient mix are different, and nurses often take on more care coordination and family communication. Your posting should name the unit or setting, the typical patient population, and the shift pattern.

Be explicit about licensing in your posting. Requirements for registered nurses vary by jurisdiction, so state the license or registration your candidates must hold to practice in your location, along with any mandatory certifications your facility requires, such as basic or advanced life support. Also mention the nurse-to-patient ratio and support structure if they are selling points, because experienced RNs weigh these factors heavily when choosing an employer.
